Department of Dermatology, Hospital Pulau Pinang is actively involved in medical education and research activities to promote the advancement of dermatology. Many courses / workshops / talks in dermatology are organized to update practitioners on the new developments in clinical dermatology, while research facilities are continuously being updated to complement our clinical teaching capabilities.

We organise "Penang Dermatology Symposium" annually.

Medical Education for Dermatology Sub-speciality Training

Department of Dermatology, Hospital Pulau Pinang is one of the training centre for “Advanced Master in Dermatology”, to train residents into the next generation of dermatologists. Residents take part in structured academic activities such as journal clubs, book clubs, case presentations, picture slide sessions & clinicopathological conferences and are encouraged to conduct original research studies during their training.

In 2009, we have 1 trainee joining the department.

Medical Education for Postgraduates

Department of Dermatology, Hospital Pulau Pinang is also one of the training centre for master students in internal medicine and family medicine. They will attached with our department for 1-2 months duration each. Structured assessments are held at the end of the postings to ensure their competency.

Medical Education for Undergraduates

Undergraduates of the medical faculty of Penang Medical College and Penang International Dental College are trained in dermatology at Department of Dermatology, Hospital Pulau Pinang. Undergraduate medical education focuses on core curriculum of common dermatological diseases - their presentation and practical management.

We also accepted local universities and overseas elective undergraduate medical students. Structured assessments are also held at the end of the postings to ensure their competency.
